A Year of Celebration. A
Century of Making a Difference is a series of awards
developed to explore these values as we celebrate a century
of living by the Scout Law. Each Year of Celebration award
recognizes scouts and adult leaders who demonstrate
dedication to leadership, character, achievement, community
service, and the outdoors. These awards seek to engage each
participant to become involved in scouting activities based
on each of these five values. Requirements will
emphasize engagement and reflection on the lessons scouting
teaches. They reward personal development through
these five values.
A Year of Celebration
will be available to Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers,
as well as their respective adult leaders. Scouting
alumni are also encouraged to earn A Year of Celebration
awards and will be eligible to receive patches. Activities
occur and patches are earned during the September
2009–August 2010 program year

ANNIVERSARY: Unit Activities: As you plan your
activities for the next year have you decided what your unit will do
to celebrate the 100 th Anniversary of Scouting? Don’t let this once
in a life time opportunity pass your Scouts by. Attached is a list
of some possible things you can do. When you plan any activity
celebrating Scouting’s 100 th Anniversary, please let your District
100 th Anniversary Representative know or notify the council
chairman,
Dennis Camp, (757) 833-3071
bczoo@cox.net.
Scout Show: The Colonial Virginia Council is planning
a Scout Show in celebration of Scouting’s 100 th Anniversary. It
will be held October 2-4, 2009. Two shows will be held
simultaneously; one at King Forks Middle School in Suffolk and one
at Mariner’s Museum in Newport News. Plan now for attending and
demonstrating some Scouting skill to other Scouts and the public.
The Leaders Guide should be out by June 1 st. The Scout Show in
Suffolk is being headed up by Larry Willis. We are looking for a
chair for the Scout Show at Mariner’s Museum. If you have any
questions contact Dennis Camp at (757) 833-3071 or bczoo@cox.net.
